Frequently Asked Questions

The quick answers people ask for most.

There are two easy ways to connect the WidgetDash app to your server:

  1. QR Code (recommended): Open the WidgetDash app, tap Scan QR Code, and point your camera at the QR code in your dashboard at widgetdash.app. This fills in your server URL and API key for you.
  2. Manual setup: Open the app, tap Manual Setup, then type in your Server URL and API Key. You will find both in your account dashboard.

As soon as you are connected, the app starts syncing your widget data.

Home Screen widgets:

  1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle.
  2. Tap the + button in the top-left corner.
  3. Search for WidgetDash in the widget gallery.
  4. Pick the widget size you like and tap Add Widget.
  5. Tap the widget to choose which data source it shows, then tap Done.

Lock Screen widgets (iOS 16 and later):

  1. Touch and hold your Lock Screen, then tap Customize.
  2. Select the Lock Screen layout.
  3. Tap the widget area above or below the clock.
  4. Search for WidgetDash and pick a widget to add.
  5. Tap Done to save.

If your widgets are not showing the latest data, try these steps in order:

  1. Check your API key: Open the WidgetDash app and confirm your API key is correct. You can find your current key in your dashboard at widgetdash.app.
  2. Double-check the server URL: Make sure the server URL in the app matches the one in your account dashboard. Even a trailing slash or a small typo can block the connection.
  3. Check your internet connection: Widgets need an active connection to fetch fresh data. Try loading a webpage in Safari to confirm you are online.
  4. Force a refresh: Open the WidgetDash app and pull down to refresh. iOS sometimes delays widget updates to save battery, so your widget should catch up within a few minutes.
  5. Restart the app: If it still will not update, force-quit the WidgetDash app and open it again.

If none of these steps fix it, please reach out using the contact form below and we will help.

WidgetDash gives you a REST API, so you can push any number from any service, script, or automation tool. Just send a simple HTTP request with your API key and it lands on your widget.

For the full list of endpoints, request formats, and examples, see the API documentation at widgetdash.app.

You can also try things out in the interactive API reference at api.widgetdash.app/docs.
